ABOUT US

Central Department of Zoology (CDZ), established in 1965 AD is one of the thirteen Central Departments under Institute of Science and Technology (IOST) of Tribhuvan University. It runs Masters and PhD programs in Zoology.  Ph.D. Programs have been running with improved research facilities at the department. 

Central Department of Zoology conducts researches in various fields of Zoology. Till today, over thousand high level manpower of Zoology are produced from CDZ who have been working mostly in various fields of Zoology in governmental and non-governmental institutions.

Till the date, more than 800 M.Sc. and 11 Ph.D. theses have been awarded in Zoology from the University.

Central Department  of Zoology conducts research in various fields viz. General Zoology, Animal Ecology, Behaviour, Biodiversity, Faunistics, Systematic, Parasitology, Ecology, Entomology and Fish and Fisheries. 

Faculties and students have been awarded research projects from various national and international agencies such as UGC, DNPWC, NTNC, CSWIN, BCN, ICIMOD, USAID, IFS, WWF, IUCN, RSPB, RUFFORD, Red Panda Network, Oriental Bird Club, Birdlife International etc. Co-ordination and collaboration with other departments and research organizations are in process. Annual student educational excursion to different places is also very supportive in research activities.
