ABOUT US

Central Department of Computer Science and Information Technology (CDCSIT-TU) is a part of the Institute of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University. The vision of the department is to enable Tribhuvan University, Nepal to play a key role in the global IT scenario through word class education, research and innovation.

Founded in 2001, the CDCSIT-TU is a center for research and education at the graduate levels and has been producing competent computer and IT products as per the country s requirements. The department emphasizes strong research existing in the areas of computer science and scientific computing and other fields of related application with a strong focus on interdisciplinary research and applications. Close ties are maintained with eminent researchers with computational interests in other university departments. In addition, both faculty and students commonly work with investigators at nearby research or industrial institutions. The main educational goal is to prepare students for research and teaching careers either in universities or in industry.

CDCSIT-TU offers Masters of Science in Computer Science and Information Technology (M.Sc.CSIT) which is a two-year four-semester program. A degree in B.Sc. in Computer Science, BE-computer, electronics, BTech or curriculum equivalent to bachelor level program in computer science at Tribhuvan University, is required for admission. Students having masters degree in Science (Physics, Statistics and Mathematics) and students of four year degree in engineering can also apply for admission provided they have completed pre-requisite courses needed to enroll in the first year course of M.Sc.CSIT program. The selection for admission is based ion entrance examination and 24 students have been enrolled in a semester.

The department is planning to start the Postgraduate Diploma in Computer Science which is a one-year (two-semester) degree program specially designed to provide an excellent opportunity for non-computer Bachelor 's Degree holders to learn how to apply concepts of CSIT in their own disciplines and train for carriers in the computing services industry. It gives students with different backgrounds in science and engineering a chance to enter the M. Sc. in CSIT of TU.
