Situated within the middle management level of the civil service hierarchy, section officers work under the guidance of senior government officials, such as deputies or secretaries. They play a crucial role in executing policies and ensuring the smooth functioning of governmental operations. Additionally, section officers may supervise lower-level staff, overseeing their performance and providing necessary guidance.

Eligibility: 

Civil Service Category (Gazetted, Class III)


According to Section 10 of the Civil Service Act, 2049, and Rule 15 of the Civil Service Regulations, 2050, the minimum educational qualification required for section-officer is as follows:

  1. For Nepal Judicial Service (Judiciary, Law, Government Advocate Group), having completed a Bachelor's degree in Law from a recognized educational institution.
  2. For Nepal Account Audit Service, having completed a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or Commerce with specialization in Accountancy or having passed the Chartered Accountancy examination.

Administrative Parliament Service Category (Gazetted, Class III)


According to the Administrative-Parliament Secretariat Act, 2064, and Rule 20, the minimum educational qualification required for section officer is as follows:

  1. For Administrative-Parliament Service, General Administration Group, having completed a Bachelor's degree from a recognized educational institution.
  2. For Administrative Parliament Service, Education and Printing Group, having completed a Bachelor's degree in Printing Management or having obtained a Bachelor's degree in any discipline and completed a 6-month training in printing management or printing technology.

Age Requirements 

  1. The minimum age requirement is 18 years, and the maximum is 35 years for male candidates and 40 years for female and disabled candidates.
  2. There is no age limit for current permanent government employees.
