Choosing the right school is one of the most significant decisions a family can make. In Nepal, that decision has never been more complex or more consequential. With nearly 38,000 schools listed on Edusanjal alone, the options are vast. But options without honest information are not choices; they are guesses. That is exactly why we launched School Reviews at Edusanjal.

Nepal's schools; a vast and varied landscape

Nepal's school system has expanded enormously over the past three decades. Today the country is home to more than 27,000 public schools and nearly 10,000 private institutions, alongside religious schools, private nonprofits, and a growing number of specialised institutions — from 991 technical schools building vocational skills to a small but significant group of IB, CBSE, and A-Level schools bringing international curricula to Nepali students.

This breadth is genuinely impressive. A family in Nepal today can, in principle, choose between a government community school, a private boarding institution, a technical school with industry-linked training, or even an internationally accredited programme.

Nearly 39,000 schools. But for most families in Nepal, the real question has never been how many schools exist; it has been: which one is actually right for my child?

Yet this diversity has long outpaced the availability of reliable information. The gap between what is printed in a school's brochure and what students and parents actually experience inside those gates can be enormous. More than 71% of Nepal's schools are public institutions, many serving communities with limited access to independent guidance or counselling. For families in these settings, honest peer information is not a convenience; it is the only practical alternative to guesswork.

Why we started school reviews

At Edusanjal, we have always believed that information should be more than a list of facts — it should reflect real experience. Our school directory gives families the what: the names, locations, types, and affiliations of schools across Nepal. Reviews give them the how and the why; the texture of daily life inside those institutions that no official document can capture.

EMPOWERING OUR COMMUNITY

Official brochures present a polished, carefully curated image. Reviews fill those gaps with genuine perspectives on teaching quality, facilities, campus culture, and the overall environment a child will spend years of their life in. They give every family — regardless of location or access to professional guidance — the kind of insider knowledge previously passed only between friends and neighbours.

BUILDING TRUST THROUGH TRANSPARENCY

Authentic, user-generated content creates a far more credible resource than one built on official data alone. When parents and students see candid, diverse opinions from people who have lived the experience, Edusanjal becomes more than a directory — it becomes a trusted community resource.

DRIVING IMPROVEMENT IN SCHOOLS

For school leadership, honest reviews are one of the most valuable feedback mechanisms available. They surface what internal assessments often miss: how students feel in classrooms, whether parents trust the administration, whether safety concerns are taken seriously. When schools are accountable to community voice, they are far more motivated to improve continuously.

HIGHLIGHTING WHAT MAKES EACH SCHOOL UNIQUE

Nepal's school landscape includes extraordinary institutions at every level, public schools with outstanding teachers, technical schools transforming young people's prospects, small community schools with remarkable cultures of care. Reviews help these stories surface, so families can find not just a good school, but the right school for their child.

What we review — and why these items

Our six review categories were built around a single question: what truly shapes a child's experience, safety, and future at school? Each item reflects something that matters deeply to students and families  and that official rankings or inspection reports consistently fail to capture.

1. Academics

Quality of education, curriculum including STEAM, music and arts, teacher effectiveness, and college and career guidance.

2. Extracurriculars

Clubs, activities, sports, and enrichment programmes that develop students beyond the classroom.

3. Facilities & Resources

Infrastructure, amenities, food services, and transportation — the physical environment students inhabit every day.

4. School Culture & Diversity

Inclusivity, sense of community, and meaningful parent engagement that shapes the social fabric of school life.

5. Safety

Physical and emotional security, anti-bullying policies, and the overall sense of safety students experience daily.

6. Administration

Leadership quality, communication with families, and the responsiveness of school management to concerns.

The power of honest feedback

Nepal's schools serve millions of children at the most formative stage of their lives. The quality, safety, and culture of a school shape not just academic outcomes, but also a child's confidence, character, and lifelong opportunity. Honest reviews are the way that reality, in all its detail, gets passed from one generation of families to the next.

When parents write candidly about their experiences, they are not just helping individual families. They are contributing to a more accountable and transparent school system for all of Nepal. Every honest review, regardless of whether it celebrates a school's strengths or identifies where it can improve, serves as a small act of community investment.

Your feedback helps other families make informed decisions — and gives schools the honest signal they need to improve.

A note to parents and students

Your honest feedback helps other families make truly informed decisions and encourages schools to continuously raise their standards. Whether your experience has been exceptional or difficult, your voice matters. Every review is an investment in Nepal's children.
