President Ram Baran Yadav has expressed his serious concern over frequent attacks on the academic sector by political youth organisations.
Making separate telephone calls to Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar on Friday morning, the President expressed his dissatisfaction at the government’s reluctance to take action against those involved in the attacks.
According to President’s Press Advisor Rajendra Dahal, Yadav called Bhattarai and Gachhadar to say that attacks on the education sector were escalating at the government’s inability to control the acts. The President also asked them to provide security to the academic sector, said Dahal.
The Nepal Students’ Union had burnt and smeared billboards of five colleges, demanding a change in their foreign names while the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary had vandalised four colleges affiliated to the Higher Secondary Education Board and the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training and set on fire buses of two colleges.
